We do not collect any personally identifying information about visitors to this Web site.
However, when you (i) submit a request either (A) to be informed of updates and the latest information from us or (B) to learn about CyberSmart! Professional Development, or (ii) submit an inquiry or suggestion, the information you submit (e.g. your name, email address, and school name and school address) is added to our electronic mailing list. Occasionally, The CyberSmart! Education Company may use that information to notify you of updates to our Web site. We will not share the information we collect from you with any outside company. Such information is not provided to either our sponsoring companies, our supporters, or any third party.
Cookies
This site does not use cookies.
Cookies are text files, sent from a Web server and placed on your computer's hard drive, that sometimes contain information about your Web surfing habits or preferences.
Cookies are designed to make Web sites easier to use and access. For example, by accepting a Web site's cookie, you would not have to type in your user ID or password after the first time you arrived there. (Instead, the site would automatically recognize you through a connection with the cookie). The use of cookies is a normal Internet business practice and you'll find them employed by many Web sites.
However, cookies can be used to compile a list of information about the computer user, which information is greater than just a password. Cookies are also used to monitor to what site a person travels after he or she leaves a certain site, as well as which banner advertisements attract a user. Many people fear that the information on the cookies could be correlated to an individual by name, and that that person's privacy, and perhaps anonymity, on the Web could be compromised.
IP Addresses
An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a number assigned to your computer when you surf the Internet. Servers scattered around the world uses these addresses to direct your Web browsers. While an IP address can be associated with an individual computer, the IP address does NOT automatically identify the name of the computer's user or its purchaser. In fact, it is standard practice in most school districts that the IP address shows only the schools' network address, and not the individual computer.
The server that hosts this site is capable of identifying and storing the IP addresses of visitors to the site as well as the IP address from which they came to the site. The CyberSmart! Education Company is unable to link the school district IP addresses to anything personally identifiable about you, so you can and will remain anonymous to us. We use these IP addresses for the purposes of system administration and looking at overall aggregate site usage and will not provide them, or data associated with them, to outside parties, including advertisers, unless required to do so by law, or in the good faith belief that such disclosure is reasonably necessary to (i) comply with the legal process, or (ii) respond to claims of a violation of the rights of third parties.
Our Commitment to Data Security
To prevent unauthorized access, the server that hosts this site has put in place appropriate physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure any information we collect online.
As you know, there have in the past been incidents where third parties unlawfully intercept transmissions and abuse or misuse your private identity information. Although we work very, very hard to protect the privacy of your name and email address to anyone outside our CyberSmart administrators, we cannot and do not ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, and you trasmit information at your own risk.
Children
The U.S. Federal Government has passed a statute (the Children's On-Line
Privacy Protection Act, known as "COPPA") that requires certain Web sites
- those that collect certain personal information from anyone 13 years old
or younger - first to obtain the verifiable consent of a parent or guardian
before collecting that information. The Federal Trade Commission also urges
sites to request that teens (ages 13 to 17) provide the e-mail address of
a parent or guardian, so that notification can be sent to them about any
personal information (name, address, etc.) supplied by the teen.
The CyberSmart! Curriculum does not direct the information on this Web site
towards children, except under the supervision or instructional direction
of an educational professional. In no instances does the CyberSmart! Curriculum
site collect any personal data from children.
